I have browsed this forum looking at threads and havent found what I need.

I have a 1974 johnson 70 hp 3 cyl loop motor

I am trying to remove the lower unit to change the water pump.

I have removed the 4 bolts around the trim plate and the big one under the plate on the far tip.

I have also removed the shift linkage screw from under the carbs.

still wont drop any seems tight toward the rear point of the trim plate on back of motor.

hasnt dropped any at all. Am I missing something......Please help I need this in water by next weekend.

Sorry for the newbie question but I really am frustrated and need a helping hand!

If you have removed:

The 4 obvious bolts
The large bolt in front of the trim tab
The trim tab
The bolt under the trim tab <-- (I suspect you've missed this one)
The shift linkage connection under the bottom carburetor

The lower unit should drop away. If it does not, I would suspect that the driveshaft splines are frozen in the crankshaft splines. This problem is enabled when someone has the lower unit off and does not re-install the top driveshaft O Ring and grease the splines of the driveshaft.
