Is it a Pre-Alpha, and Alpha +1, Alpha 1, Alpha minus 1, R series? I need to know a name. Please help me sleep tonight.:p

An early Alpha version would fit fine and would probably be what you'd get from a rebuilder. Not many rebuild the original drives anymore.

Not only do I have to come up to speed on Merc Speak, I have to come up to speed on iboats speak. How in Heavens name do you do the Bold and color in your posts? I've looked all over for those functions.

As for the drive, MERC ONE/ R series? ..and upgradable to Alpha ?. Is there any signifigant differences between them?

Sorry RP, I don't have the serial number at hand.

Alpha one will work, but you need to change your intermediate cable to the 6 inch measurement. The 888 is more than likely the old 5 and 7/8 version shift.

12Footer had/has the same problem. Find the email to admin and ask. Not sure whether he got his straightened out yet.

Re: Ok, come clean all you Merc-O-philes, what

Actually, making the pictures and posting them only takes about a minute to do.
Most ISP's give you space for a web page, comes with your monthy internet service. Don't know what kind of setup it is that I have, but when I had ATT.net it was different and not as easy to use.
Then I have an FTP program to upload my pictures to the WEB.
That's the hard part.
To take the picture, I use a neat little program called Solid Capture, do a Rectangle picture of the area I want a picture of. Then use Microsoft Paint (Comes free with WIndows) to edit and add the circles and arrows (without arrowhead, aint figgered out how to do that yet). save the picture to my desktop, then use the FTP program to upload the picture to my site. Then I just get the URL of my picture by opening the picture and copying the URL and pasting it into the picture prompt.
Sounds like a lot of work, but it only takes a few clicks and it's done.
That's all there is to it.

Re: Ok, come clean all you Merc-O-philes, what

i have a merc 233 1976 which is the 351w with a #1 outdrive.
The #1 drive is upgradable to an alpha Gen 1. I did that back around 2000. It mates up to the transom assembly and gimbal housing no problem. I still run the original style trim cylinders. As to what the differences or benifits are of the alpha over the #1, I don't know but I would hope the alpha being a later design would be lighter, stronger, faster, more durable, etc. Parts should be easier to come by.
