When is the last time an oil company did something nice for this country? Notice the price creep going back up slowly. I do. And the public jump was a killer. Remember when called before Congress shortage dropped and prices fell. Ok not back to the pre-gouge level but some.

How do they keep gouging. How about Diesel. Most of the citizens here have gasoline cars not Diesel so now it is higher than gasoline. Did it suddenly become in short supply, I thought both came from oil. HMMMMMMMM gouge through delivery vehicles and pass it back door to the public.

Heck the public will never catch on they are stupid.

Oh yeah my disclaimer for GW's spying, the above was written without basis and truth and was done while not of sound mind.

Re: OIL

I think one needs to ask his local retailer how he keeps gouging?

He asks the price, for a new batch, not the price he paid.

The Fed. is all over price gougers, local and state-ARE NOT.

I asked a local retailer, awhile back, why he raised his price- $.30-overnight. His response-"because I can and that's the price, I just paid."

I asked, what about the 15,000 gallons you have in the ground? His response. "eyes glazed over and babble".

When is the last time a Democrat did anything nice for this country? Seriously...when is the last time a Democrat did something positive or proposed legislation that was healthy for this country?

QC,

You 're missing the point. PROFIT=EVIL!!

Socialist regimes have failed, whenever tried. However, we have a groundswell of neo-socialists, in this country that think they are smarter than 6000 years of history.

Trouble is, the "squeaky" wheel gets the grease. The rest (most) of the US populace is asleep.

DJ,

No, I got the point, but because txs owns his own company, I have a sneaking suspicion he pursues profit . . . Just thought a little analogy might be fun if I knew what his company actually does . . .

QC,

OK. It's none of my damn business what TXS does, or owns.

If he want to destry his own livelihood, so be it. But, he, and others, better keep their nose clear of my business.

Re: OIL

Why does everyone overlook the fact that the price of crude has gone up since the price of gasoline dropped to about $2. a gallon about a month ago? You think that it's high now, wait a while.

I have not forgotten. You're right, the rubber band efffect is about to hit.

My point was that retailers are sticking it to the public, under the guise of the "big bad oil companies". The problem, to some extent, may be your neighbor.

The press blames the Rep's for fillibustering a bill that contained Anwar drilling. Funny, I thought that was a Dem. cause.

The REAL problem was the CRAP attached to the bill. But, the US population lives by soundbites, not reality.

What's on TV-DOH!

18R, Why the demo question, do you think the Republicans lead by GW and Cheney are behind this? I did not say that.

DJ, Goes back to profit is great when market is free, not when monopolized. When monopolized, gouging and price fixing begin and next thing you know the government will have to step in to stop the abuse then we end up with gov. regs.

DJ, Wonder why no one responded to the diesel prices and my comments. Too much truth!!

Re: OIL

DJ, Did you miss the testimony by Exxon that they had a 30% increase in profit from the "shortage." To the tune of 8.8 Million. Give me a break, you are way smarter than that.

TXS,

The day we dictate what an entity can make is the day we are doomed, as a "free" society.

BTW, what was the margin for retailers, not that it matters?

Pick your poison.

What do you want?

1. A government telling you and me, what we can make?

2. A government letting the market bear the price?

Don't insult my intellegence. If freedom is a sign of idiocy, I'm done, along with this country.

Re: OIL

Republican senator Stevens (R) Alaska attached the drilling bit dj, read it.

Attempt to allow drilling in Alaska wildlife refuge blocked
21/12/2005 - 18:45:10

The US Senate today narrowly blocked a Republican plan to tap into the nation’s largest untapped reservoir of oil beneath the frozen tundra of an Alaska wildlife refuge.

Drilling supporters fell four votes short of getting the required 60 votes to avoid a Democrat-led filibuster, a procedural move to delay or derail legislation. The vote was 56-44.

Republicans had hoped to win passage by making the oil drilling issue part of a popular defence spending bill that has money for troops in Iraq and relief for Hurricane Katrina victims. Because of today’s vote, Senate leaders are expected to rework the bill to eliminate the oil-drilling proposal.

The vote was a stinging defeat for Senator Ted Stevens, a Republican who represents Alaska and has waged an intense fight for years to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He had thought this time he would finally get his wish by tying the proposal to a must-pass defence bill.

Stevens called the refuge’s oil important to national security and bemoaned repeated attempts over the years that were killed in filibusters mounted by those opposed to drilling.

Democrats accused Stevens of holding the defence bill hostage to Alaska drilling. The overall bill includes money for troops in Iraq and £16.4 billion for victims of Hurricane Katrina in the southern US.

“Our military is being held hostage by this issue, Arctic drilling,” fumed Senator Harry Reid, the Democratic leader. He said the Senate could move quickly to pass the defence bill once the refuge issue had been resolved.

“We all agree we want money for our troops. ... This is not about the troops,” said Senator John Kerry, a strong critic of disturbing the refuge in northeastern Alaska by oil field development.

There is NO WAY that Katrina nad SE hurricane victims should be attached, or visa versa.

IMHO, all bills should stand alone, or not at all.

I agree on helping both. Not together, however.

You didn't tell me anything I didn't know.

Re: OIL

txs,

The diesel thing is complicated. First, truckers do not pay what you see at the smaller retail auto type stations (more demand AND supply). In the case of the smaller retailers, yes, they can command more for diesel as the supply to people who do not want to drive to a large truck stop is more limited.

Also, diesel continues to be targeted for changes in maximum sulfur content. This causes the cost of refining and transportation to rise. Remember, not all of the diesel sold must be refined to the the low-sulfur requirements, so only some Refineries are retrofitted causing some increases in transportation cost.

Re: OIL

QC, I stand informed although it seems from $.50 below reg to $.50 above is an awful lot and as stated is easy to hide the hit to John Q by increase in other prices.
