Oil warning light always on (honda 90)

I have a Honda 90 for which the oil warning light comes on and stays on immediately after the engine starts. I checked the oil level and its fine. I don't believe its the oil pump since the light instantly comes on as soon as the engine starts, but thats just wishful thinking. I have a feeling (hope) it may be a short in the control at the helm or at some oil sensor. Has anyone experienced this issue or may know where & how to begin debugging this problem? I have a multimeter handy but clueless where the sensors, readings, and where oil pump are located. Also what does it mean when the buzzer starts sounding? Is that different than just the oil light being displayed? Is there any way to know that the oil pump is functioning?

P.S.: Should the oil light be on all the time when the engine is running? Maybe I'm seeing the correct behavior after all.

Thanks!

Ok, I snooped some more around the forum and found that was the correct behavior :) fvew!

This is what I found:

The oil light should be on when the engine is running and you have good oil pressure ( on all of the time ) The temp light should not be on, if the temp light is on you should also have a over temp alarm that sounds to let you know there is a problem. Remember green light good red light bad.

As a Honda owner, yes green light good red light bad. The oil light should come on right after starting, at idle it might be dimmer then running wot because of the pressure differance.

WHAT?
My oil light is NEVER on except when I turn the ignition on. As soon as I start, it goes out. What gives?
Honda 90 hp as well.

Look close at the light, it should be on even if it is just a slight glow.

Well this puts me in a quandry, I've just put a second hand two year old Honda 50hp on my boat.
Giving it it's first run today my oil light was also on all the time.
I don't have the manual that came with the engine as it was lost in a fire, does anyone have a manual they can look up to see when the light is meant to be on?

Just as for the BF90, the BF50 has a green oil pressure light which is lit to indicate good oil pressure whenever the engine is running. If it goes out, that is an indication of loss of pressure; a buzzer should also sound. For the BF50, see the below link:

BF50 Owner's Manual & Oil Pressure Light
