Hello all,
I have a 200 hp precision blend Yamaha outboard. I am aware that this subject would have been covered in detail many times but I cannot seem to find the answers I'm needing !! Problem is that the transfer pump will only run for 30 secs or so then stop. If ignition is switched off, then back on, the pump will start again and run for 30 secs. I have removed the tank and ran the pump from a battery and it pumps continuously with no hesitation, even with some resistance from my finger over the end of hose.
I have also done a test during a 30 second run with the engine tank float position and it all seems to work as it should.
Cheers

What is the complete model of the motor?

Are you talking about using the emergency toggle switch to run the pump motor?

If so, why are you using the emergency toggle switch?

No , not using the emergency switch, when the ignition is switched to ON it only runs for 30 secs.(engine not running). I have had the low oil alarm come on and was trouble shooting the cause. Maybe the transfer pump will not run continuously until full if engine not running ??

If the motor is a 1996 or later model (you did not give us the complete ID) then the automatic oil transfer system will not work unless the motor is running. Except for one condition. That being when the motor is new. Main oil tank empty. Remote oil tank full. With key on the pump will run for either 180 seconds or until the main tank gets filled.

Older models used either mercury switch or the trim sensor to inhibit the automatic oil transfer system.

Until the specific model of your motor is known it is difficult to give good advice. Not all Yams are the same. Go to your Ford dealer and tell him you have a problem. First words out of his mouth is what year and what model?

Why did you not ask how the system works? That being known makes it a hellava lot easier to trouble shoot a problem.
