Oil recommendations?

I have an OLD mid 60's ish Mercury 650 motor. I know (and use) the proper oil to gas ratio. Is there an oil out there that folks would recommend for lower smoke/fumes? My wife likes to go fishing with me but really doesnt like being on the downwind leg of a troll. I have heard that some of the synthetics are good for this. Thoughts?

synthetics are good, use them at the 50-1 ratio.

Relatively cheep and good, Pennzoil full synthetic. I pay 25/gal at Menards.

I run it in a 150 XR4, with a safety dose in the fuel tank so it runs about 40:1 at WOT, maybe 60:1 at idle. Not too obnoxious unless I'm dealing with a flooded cold start.
