I have a tapping noise coming from the motor,i thought it was a bearring, but i got a second opinion and determined that the oil pump for the motor may be whats been making the racket.Did compression check everythings fine with that but does anyone know if you can take the pump system out and mix the oil with the gas on this model yamaha?its a 90hp yamaha 85 model precision blend.Thanks.

I would check timing first. Pull the pump out and inspect the worm gear. Very rarely do these pumps fail.

The oil pump shaft turns very slowly, and the oil injection is completely mechanical. The electrics are just to pump the oil from the external tank to the small tank on the head. Yamaha oil injection seldom break or make noise. These engines are pretty bullet proof.

You can disconnect the electrics and run the boat on pre-mix. You'll probably get an amber light on the tachometer, however. If the motor runs right, I would really address this issue before I'd mix the oil. Worse come to worse, find a good independent marine mechanic to troubleshoot the problem.
