Hello There,i have a 91 mariner 135 and it seems to be over oiling. Its very smokey, ive been told by people that they will smoke but this is pretty bad.Ive checked all bleed hoses and check valves and all seems well. The marks on the oil lever line up allright so im thinking maybe someone has taken the lever off at some stage and the shaft has rotated and its been put back on wrong. Is there a way of checking it to make sure its right?.hope i can fix it cause im sick of nearly choking when im idling around.Cheers

It sounds like you have all the bases covered. I don't think the arm can be installed wrong on the pump, so if the lines are lining up, the pump should be fine. Even if it were off, the pump won't pump richer than 50:1.

What kind of oil are you using? I find that most low priced aftermarket oil smokes more than major manufacturer stuff.

Not trying to get you to switch to anything but just to share my experience with you...

My engines used to smoke pretty bad too (doesn't sound as bad as yours) and the engines didn't seem to have the power they should. They just seemed tired. I removed the oil injection system and started premixing gas & oil at 50:1, and it's like I have a new set of engines. They are much quicker now so I'm thinking my pump was over oiling also. I feel much more secure knowing the engines are getting the right amount of oil and am very pleased with the way they are running.

Thanks Michael,im thinking ill give that a run and see how it goes. Can i just disconect the oil injection without taking the hole thing off so i can try the premix for a run and see how it goes,or will it damage the pump because no oil is lubing the shaft?
