Re: Oil Pressure

Does the engine have good oil pressure at idle when hot.... if so I would guess y9ou are having a problem of oil in pan surging away from pick up when you cut power suddenly.... insure that dipstick is accurate
if it is you might be able to cure problem by running a little extra oil.... if not I would suggest that baffles in pan are not controling oil..if you don't want to disassemble the engine you could install an accusump system from the after market which is a pressurized system to insure you have no oil stravation problems in future.....good luck

Re: Oil Pressure

Put oil pressure gauge (mechanical) to check oil pressure... 10/15 dollars from Parts store... check at idle & record then check at full throttle & record... if within acceptable limits... then your sending unit is going bad... these normally are electrical units & not mechanical and wear out from time to time... they runn aprox @ 25-30 dollars at parts store & you need to know the level of gauge on boat such as 0-60 or 0-90... min & max... any questions use email below...

fone_man
fone_man@bellsouth.net

Re: Oil Pressure

Hey 86Wellcraft - how did you resolve your problem? I just bought a 1999 Searay and have the same problem. My engine is a 5.0 EFI ALpha Mercruiser. Actually I am a little worried because when I am moving forward real slow, the pressure drops to about 5, a warning beep goes off, and the engine shuts down! Any help or insight as to hoe I can remedy this would be much appreciated! thx

Re: Oil Pressure

Walter:

I do not know how that posted 3 times plus that was over two months ago!!!

Most GM engines use a electrical Oil Pressure switch that over time goes bad. Same thing on my Old Ford PUP when I bought it... low oil pressure... bought new sending unit... BINGO... good pressure. I guess contacts were not sending correct amount of voltage. Plus usually when this happens they are the source of the small/slow oil leaks into bilge area.

POSTING only once!!!
