What should my oil pressure and rpm be at idle??
I have a 2005 mercruiser 4.3l and I'm at 1000 rpm and 50psi on oil pressure at idle.
Does this seem Normal oil pressure at idle

seems high. how high does it get at RPM? a small block chevy (4.3 qualifies) only 'needs' 7 PSI at idle and about 10 PSI per 1000 RPM. there isn't really a 'too much' until you blow an oil filter gasket. you may have a bad gauge or sending unit? was it always this high at idle or did something change?

i used to build race engines and hated high volume pumps as they only cost horsepower. a high pressure pump was ok to use, or i would buy a regular pump and install a washer in the spring.

I rechecked. It's 40 psi at idle (800 rpm) at 2000 rpm it's about 43psi, 3000 -4000 rpm it goes to about 60 psi

Ayuh,..... Idle should be set to 650/ 750 rpms at idle, in gear, in the water,....

As noted, 10 psi per 1000 rpms is acceptable oil pressure,....

50 psi at idle, on a stone cold motor ain't outa line,.....
Oil pressure drops quite abit when the motor is fully up to operatin' temps,....
