oil or grease center of axle

today I notice oil or grease on the center of the axles. its not running along the axle and stopping there looks like its starting there and stopping there. the trailer is a 1989 calking not sure on the spelling no brakes has 17 foot ski boat on it. any advise how to fix or what the problem could be?

There ain't no oil in the center of the axle, so it's comin' from somewhere else,...

if you have ezlube type be axle it may be old grease ... On my big trailer the grease goes through both bearings and a hole in the spindle to the inside of the axle tube.... if it had a drain hole (mine does not) the grease could eventually find it's way out

do you have hydraulic brakes? if so it could be brake fluid

thanks for the reply. I crawled under today and it has a drain hole there and so I cleaned off the grease and used a scratch all to clean the hole. is this nothing to be concerned about ? the trailer doesn t have brakes

Its not a problem. I suspect it is a good thing. I think you have Reliable brand SureLube axles. My '92 Caulkins trailer has them.

If you disassemble your hub you will probably find a hole in the axle between the inner bearing and inner grease seal. When you pump new grease into the front, it goes through both bearings and forces the old grease through this hole into the hollow axle. The grease eventually makes its way to that hole in the center point of the axle. It is the best hub/axle/seal design I've ever seen.
