Oil line behind shift shaft on yamaha 115 eltk

Hi I am new to the forum i was replacing my impeller today and when i separated the lower unit i noticed a oil line behind the shift shaft that was broken and oil on top of the shift shaft plate dose this line pull oil from the engine I am trying to figure out what it is for and if the oil is coming from the engine side or pumping up from the lower end has any one seen these before i checked my clymers manual and it didn't show it in the diagram and tried looking thought youtube with no luck.
