Oil leaking from what appears to be drain hole on lower leg

I was winterizing my mercury 2008 20hp 4 stroke. I pulled out the spark plugs and added some oil for lubrication while the motor sits over winter...pulled a couple of times...put the plugs back in. I then tilted the motor fully upright and turned it to the side so I could drain the engine oil. Oil came out a small hole on the starboard side of the leg(opposite side of the fill/drain hole). Is this normal or do I have problems with the lower unit? I am hoping I put too much oil in the plug hole and it drained through this hole. Thanks

I believe most outboard motors have such a drain hole to insure that all water can drain from the exhaust and cooling systems to prevent freeze damage. On a 57 35hp Johnson I have it was plugged pretty good but now drains. Bet mine is oiler that yours!

I'd say somewhat unusual for a 4 stroke but possible. Usually normal with a 2 stroke as the oil is mixed with the gas and a fair amount remains in the exhaust system which will show up in the drain holes. Keep bumping up until a knowledgeable 4 stroke guy kicks in and answers your concern.
