Oil leaking from motor after first freeze

Greetings all, I went outside today after our first real Idaho freeze and found oil on the outside of the motor near the keel. I inspected my main motor, 28hp Evinrude, and my kicker, 6hp Evinride and found both motors to have oil leaking from a small hole above the prop. Is this acceptable or did I do some damage. Last time the boat was out, I did not run it outside the water to clear out any lake water. Anyone have any tips if its not too late on protecting my motors while I use them in the freezing weather ( Trout and Ducks ). Thanks in advance!

Dont think you have a problem..Smell the oil..Does it stink? I believe you are just seeing two stroke oil that has found its way to the bottom of the engine and that is NORMAL

I'd have to agree with Trent. Outboards will self drain in a short time if placed in the down position. Freeze damage on outboards is somewhat rare if basic precautions are heeded. Let's hope there's nothing serious here...

Walt
