Hey there.

After receiving a lot of good advice from this forum earlier, I have managed to repair my 3hp Evinrude 1968 model so that it now runs very, very good!!

One thing that I have noticed though, is that it seems to leak oil which is running down the shaft. I have taken this picture of this issue:

Is this bad? Shall I do anything to fix it?

Thanks already! - Really appreciating all the good pieces of advice I get in here!!

Rasmus.

So, is the gasket leaking or what? If that is what it is, in itself it isn't harmful, but messy. On the other hand, is the swivel tube cracked? Now that could be a serious thing if it cracks the rest of the way and the powerhead falls off in 30 feet of water.

I'd fix whatever it is.

Warning: Stupid question to follow! :D

Well... How do I determine whether it's the one or the other of your suggestions? I guess I could take something apart (what would this be?) and look for a nearby gasket? :)

Im assuming the mentioned gasket would be #7 — 310257 — GASKET,HOUSING TO COVER in this link:

Is that what you mean?

Thanks!

Does anyone know about this? Would it be safe to just remove the bolts holding the main part of the motor and the shaft together, or would everything start falling apart if I do it? :)

Thanks!
