Hi All,

I know very little about motors, but love fishing when I can out on my little 14 foot aluminum. Basically, I have noticed oil leaking out (lots today), but mostly oil coloured. I have explained the situation here with pictures

Any suggestions / input from those who know about this stuff would be greatly appreciated. I would like to get back on the water sooner then later.

Take Care,

Jason

was it crank case oil (yellow color)? if so, you may want to check if the screws are tight on the side of the motor. The are little screwsalong the shaft of the motor. also, try and drop the lower unit and see if a hose is loose, or has a hole in it. I right up there with you. i have never worked on a boat motor before. but these are what i can think of as being the problem.

First off check your oil level. Do not screw dipstick in but rest on first threads. Make sure you are storing engine on the lugs at side of case. Wrong storage or overfill with a valve opened (normal) could result in leakage there. If not any of this come back on and we`ll go a stage further.

Re: Oil Leakage 8HP Honda...HELP !!!!!!

Hi All,

Thanks for replies so far. I stored engine in upright position indoors over winter. Has been on boat since and never stored on side etc. I can't remember if I put oil in it this year....don't think so as it didn't need it. Oil was yellow at first with zero signs of milky colour...but 3rd or 4th time out I noticed a bit of milky residue, and I checked the oil level each time....didn't seem to go down, and the last time it had some milky residue on the dipstick.
I ordered some honda manual files on cd-rom from ebay to try and check the seals etc. myself...first timer...fingers crossed. I may also break down and by the official Honda shop manual too.

Advice very welcome, and will post next week if manual CD comes in so I can get cracking on it.

Thanks In Advance,

Jason

I am in the same position with one of my honda 8s. Check thermostat first. If there is one in it test it in boiling water with a thermometer making sure it opens at specified temp. It could be condensation caused by cool running with a faulty stat or no stat at all. could also be a leaky exhaust or head gasket. Do the easier stuff first.
