Greetings,
Have been visiting this board for several weeks and must say I am impressed with the Engine knowledge and Courtesy.

Here are the specifics. I have a 1959 35HP Evinrude Lark. Model #35516, have notice ever since purchasing boat/motor that just below the flywheel near the crank, what appears to be oil? I believe I read that these motors are known to have crankshaft O rings going bad? Also have noticed when running this motor in a 55 gal drum that a grayish colored foam around the top of the water. Lower seal leaking also?? Thanks in advance.

Re: Oil Leak?

Ahoy, Terry. You are correct about the seepage at the top of the crankcase. It is fuel/oil leaking from the crank seal.

The oil residue you see in your testing tank is normal. . . unburned lubricant coming out in the exhaust. Your lower seal may be leaking also, but there wont be clear visible evidence.

In an over-forty year old engine, I wouldn't be alarmed by a bit of seal seepage.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)
