After running the boat around for a little while I get oil in the cowling and sometimes it's enough to run out through the weep holes and down the back of the lower cowling. I called a friend of mine that owns a Honda dealership to see if he thought it was the pan gasket or make any suggestions. I live several hours from him and he's always been good about working with me or sending parts. I have ran about 3 full tanks of gas and the oil level has only dropped about 1/2" on the dipstick and it has a range of about 3" from full to add. I can find no evidence of where it is coming from but it always ends up in the section under the water pump indicator fitting and the area under the hose that drains the oil from the head back into the base. I cleaned that area real well and still no sign of oil other than in the cowling. He said Honda doesn't suggest you fill them all the way up but instead go to the halfway mark. Any thoughts or suggestions? Also the motor bogs down on quick acceleration from ilde and the lower cowling gets quite hot while running. When I come back off the water there is a lot of dried salt on it. New water pump and no indication of it running hot. Strong pisser etc. New to these four strokes but love the range I get out of a six gallon tank.

Try moving your tilt pin out or tilting this unit up slightly if power tilt, after you turn it off.You have a vertical crankshaft.Any oil left puddled on those rods or cylinder walls has no place left to go but into those cylinders when you turn this thing off in a negative trim situation.Any smokey start ups? Then you really know.

After further review and standing on my head to see it appears the oil is coming from the gasket between the powerhead and base. Is it a great big deal to repair yourself or do I need to take it in. The dealer estimated around $300 to repair.
