Oil Leak from Props - Bravo 3 - after drive service

Hi Guys,

So one week ago; I had a mechanic service both of my Bravo 3 outdrives. He split the drives to clean everything out and even popped the top off to check on the gears and a shifting issue. I wasn't able to put the boat in the water because I discovered a torn shift cable boot after the fact that needed to be replaced. Fast forward to today and I noticed gear oil seeping out from where the prop connects to the lower unit. Could this be related to a misplaced or missing seal when the drive was apart? I have included a pic below.

Thx

Brian

Not a good thing to see oil coming out. Either sloppy clean-up from the work or the mechanic did not do so good. Probably best to take it back to the mechanic and have the "you gotta keep doing it until you get it right" conversation.

I just heard back from him this morning. He said the drive held PSI fine and when you split the drives oil falls down in the exh cavity and comes out at the props. Can anyone confirm if this is accurate; or should I be concerned?

That would be the 'sloppy' mechanic. and it certainly could happen. Does not speak well for the mechanic though. what if you immediately put the boat in the water after servicing? Oil slick . . .

Is the mechanic telling you that he does not care?

I hope thats it. What symptoms will I see if it is not sloppy work and is a seal. I imagine I will see the oil level go down in the resevoir.

Btw nice boat. I have the 280ss
