I just bought a 1994 30 hp merc mariner ELO I think its a 84 ....the O meaning oil injection and the cover says oil injection ....but I cant find a oil tank or reserve ...Was it a out side container ? ..to be honest I plan ON just mixing my gas ...I hear so many horror stories about oil injection problems ....someone told me back them the oil injection had something to do with slits in the pistons or something like that ...dont make sense to me

Re: Oil Injection ?

Maybe a previous owner converted it over to premix and removed the tank. Is the oil pump missing too? Post some pics.

Besides the beeper going off for nothing I have never had a problem with the oil injection system on mine.

Re: Oil Injection ?

I have the same beeping problem. I just disconnected the wires until I can replace the sensor. Your motor is pretty close to mine. You should see a tall, slender window in the front of the engine cowling. This is there so you can see the oil level with your own two eyes without pulling the cowling. This is where your oil reservoir would be. It would be a rather large part (by comparison) that is somewhat transparent so you can see the level inside. Have a look at this diagram. It will show you what the reservoir is meant to look like.

It may have been converted to a premix system. I'm not personally familiar with anyone who's done that, but I suppose it's possible. Either way the oil reservoir is an internal component, not an external tank.
