I am still confused
Could someone please explain the oil injection system to me
I have a Yamaha 150 V6 Oil injected and the top oil tank keeps overflowing
Is it safe to just disconnect the control and premix the fuel

Howdy, CJG.

Different systems work differently.

There is a sensor in the small tank on the engine that should cause the flow to it to stop when it is full.

Yes, the whole thing can be (and is often) disconnected so the engine can be run on premix.

Good luck. :)

Re: Oil Injection

Do not disconnect the system!!! The cause of the overflowing is either the float switch in the engine tank isn't turning the remote pump off or the control unit has screwed up. There is three switches located inside the rod the float slides up and down on. Lower switch governs the low oil alarm, middle switch turns the pump on and the top switch turns the pump off. The black wire is the common wire on the harness coming out of the switch. You should have continuity between the black wire and the Blue/white wire when the float is at the top position. Use the Blue/green wire for the center switch and the blue/red for the lower switch.

Hmmm. If it's that simple no wonder so many disconnect it. :D

Re: Oil Injection

Yamaha unlike OMC and Mercury, injects their oil after the carb and doesn't mix it into the fuel. This means the carbs are jetted for a straight fuel only mixture. If you go mixing your oil with the fuel, it changes the weight of the fuel and you run the risk of running a cylinder lean. Now they do make the C model that doesn't have the injection, but the jets are different sizes. One day JB, you need to get out of the stone ages and at least update your thinking to the 90's. Folks use to remove the electronic ignitions that started coming standard on the cars in the 70's and changing them back to points due to not understanding the systems and was afraid of it leaving them stranded somewhere. Didn't sound like a bad idea back then, but now we know it was a crock.

Ahoy, Capt. Ken.

I don't see any need for insults.

You need to work on your manners.

I was designing CD ignitions for my fuel injected engines in the 60s. :)

Re: Oil Injection

Yamaha oil injection system is the best on the market. The rate of oil is dilivered at the rate of throtle position. I never understood disconnecting a system because a sensor has a failure. This system will only over oil and never under oil. Yamaha spent alot of r&d designing this system. I have never thought I was smarter that the engineer who designed this system. The tank sensor list for 120.00. Oil at 16.50 a gallon. Seven gallons would pay for the sensor at pre mix 50/to one. In one year you would save that in oil if the system is working.

Don't waste your breath Vinney. Its called the old "fear of what you don't understand" syndrome. People would rather condemn something rather than educate themselves. As for insults and manners, I get testy when it appears that someone without knowledge attempts to advise someone on making a wrong decision. Like my pappy use to tell me, son if you don't know the answer, why open your mouth so everyone knows how dumb you are.

Capt. Ken. I think you are going off half cocked.

I simply made a statement about what some people do. An accurate statement. I made NO RECOMMENDATION.

I agree with what Vinney said.

Cocky remarks about what someone else thinks are simply fight-starters.

You have no basis for your insults, so back off.

Its also accurate to say alot of folks jump off bridges, but that doesn't mean its alright for other people to follow suit. I believe that folks come to this site to get the most correct and up to date information available. Anything short of that is a disservice to anyone asking questions. As Trent will tell anyone, I'm a founding mod on another boating site and I'm not known for candy coating my feeling. The only problem I have with this site is the post numbering system. The number of posts do not equal knowledge and all answers need to be considered before making a decision. To be honest, on the other site I've been know to be a real butt, but hey, everyone has to be good at something.

Yup. While your information is good and accurate, Ken, your attitude is a real butt here too.
