I have a Yamaha 150 early 90's and the oil tank on engine will run down to the point that the warning buzzer goes off and i have to fill the engine tank using the remote switch. I pulled the oil line lose from the aux.oil tank at the aux. pump. when I turn the ing switch on it pumps but only a little faster than a dribble. my question is how much flow should be coming out when the pump is running?

Re: oil injection

I don't know off hand what the rate of flow should be, but I can tell you that on the times I have done work on my engine and had to fill the engine oil tank, it took about 2 minutes.

There is a little filter back there by the aux. tank pump, have you checked that?

Re: oil injection

I JUST HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 90 MODEL 150. IT LOOKS LIKE I HAVE A BAD RELAY IN THE CDI UNIT. THE CDI UNIT CONTROLS JUST ABOUT THE WHOLE ENGINE AND COST ABOUT $500 RETAIL TO REPLACE W/O LABOR. I HAVE AN ELECTRONICS GENUS WHO RIGGED A NEW RELAY WITH A TIMER TO BYPASS THE BAD RELAY IN THE CDI UNIT. I RAN IT 200 PLUS MILES LAST WEEK WITH NO PROBLEM.

Re: oil injection

I have a 250 Yamaha where I need to add oil to the upper reservoir every 15 miles. I have replaced my oil pump. The pump is pumping oil from the lower to the upper but not fast enough. I need some help.....

Re: oil injection

I have twin Y. 250's.
The engine oil tank fills with the manual switch and when you first switch the key on. When the oil level gets to the lower mark the alarm goes off but the pump does not start. (Pump and filter on remote tank are new) Turn the key off and back on and the pump in the remote tank starts and fills the engine tank. The pump shuts off when the sensor rises to the full mark. Have switched the sensor from the starboard engine with no improvement. All that is missing is the 'message' telling the pump in the remote tank to turn on when the oil level in the engine tank falls to the refill mark. Turn the key off and back on and this seems to reset the system and the pump starts.
The CDI is about all that is left.
Has anyone run in to this key on / off situation before?
TW
