After a complete hose replacement, fuel and oil system clean out, injector calibration/cleaning, etc. I have my fuel system back together and finally fired up my boat for the first time in 8 years.
The good news is that it fired on little more than the touch of the key....the bad news is, my oil injection pump is not passing oil to the VST. My obvious concern is the infamous plastic drive gear failure. I removed the oil pump from the engine but did not remove the shaft and bearing. When I rotate the engine the shaft turns, and when I try to turn the shaft with a screwdriver the shaft will not turn. Therefore, because the drive shaft is not turning freely against the plastic drive gear I'm assuming (and hoping) the plastic gear is not the culprit.
Meanwhile, I disassembled the oil pump and cleaned out any potential blockages and checked for unusual wear. I saw nothing that looked unusual and reassembled, re-installed the pump, bled it again and even left the hose from the oil pump to the VST disconnected. Still nothing. No oil passing through the pump, even when cranking the motor and holding the oil pump lever to full rich.
So, is it possible that the shaft will continue to turn even if the plastic drive gear is broken, but not pump oil? Is it common for an oil pump to fail and if so, how would I test the pump itself? Or, am I just not doing something right to get the oil to flow past the pump initially? For what it's worth, I have bled the line from the tank to the pump and there is no air in that side of the system.
Thanks in advance for your feedback and recommendations.
