I have a 1998 Merc 175 XR2 SportJet and thinking about removing the oil injection system and going to premix in the tank myself. Does anyone have experience on doing this and is it ok to do? What ratio should I mix, 50-1, 32-1, ?
I appreciate anyone's input on this, thanks!

I removed the oil mixing system on my 2000 merc 200hp 2-stroke and mixed it 50:1 in the tank....didn't have any issues with that. The sell kits made for removing the oil systems on many of the older 2-strokes.

Why do you want to remove it? Is it not working correctly?

Leave it connected, and run a few tanks of Premix, then check to see if the Oil has dropped in the Oil Tank. If it hasn't then you know it isn't working. If it has dropped then it is adding some oil.

Always a gamble leaving these particular things connected, I’d advise. On the old school v6 anyway.

It is also a Gamble that once it is removed, that the proper amount of Oil is added, and adequately mixed

Suppose you could say that, if being pessimistic around the mathematical ability of the owner, haha. I just absolutely pre mix 50-1 on any of the engines like these I’ve had and have now…that’s since learning the lesson on the first one owned. When the drive on the pump failed on me out the blue. Not something I’ll forget in a hurry.
