I have a 2000 Johnson 50hp and the warranty has just run out. For peace of mind I would like to disconnect oil injection and start using pre-mix. Not sure how to disconnect the no oil and low oil alarms and still keep the temperature alarm.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,

I wouldn't mess with it. I've run several VRO equipped OMC's many hours and have not had a bit of trouble with the the oiling system. Keep good oil in it. Keep it full and make sure your warning whistle proves out every time you turn the ignition key on. Do not run it if it doesn't. One time out thinking that just one time won't hurt it will cost you big $$$.

The very early VRO systems did have some problems, yet the factory fixed them fast, it was costing them a bundle. However, the perception stuck in the mind of the boating public.

REMOVE OIL LINE TO ENGINE INSTALL PLASTIC CAP OVER NIPPLE THEN DISCONNECT THE HARNESS COMING FROM VRO WHICH WILL DISARM THE OIL HORN AND YOUR OTHER WARNING HORN SUCH AS THE OVERHEAT WILL NOT BE EFFECTED.AND ALSO DISCONNECT TWO WIRE HARNESS TO THE OIL TANK.

Great to hear from DJohn19

I thought I was the only one defending VRO.

I agree. On asuch a new engine, why mess around ?

Keep the oil fresh and completely change and refresh at the beginning of the season. Reprime the system and make sure that oil is right through to the see thru tube.

First run of the season , run a small tank of premix and double check the oil flow

Check your warning horn regulary, both off the key, and by grounding at the engine.

Put it in the water and enjoy.
