I just changed the oil in my lower unit for the winter. I noticed that it was not an oil color, but a lighter color almost the color of peanut butter. Does this mean that I have a seal that is leaking? Do I need to worry if I change it before I put it away for the winter each year?

If I have seal that is leaking can I change it myself? I have the shop manual for the motor, but how difficult is it to change the seals? How long would it take? Do I need any special tools?

Thanks and have a great day.

Did you install new gaskets on the fill and drain plugs last time you serviced the outdrive, if not, then that is probably where the small amount of water came from, put new seals on when you service it for the winter this time and run it next spring and then check it after the first run and see if there is any water and go from there.
