DLD, I would not. The repair manual (Seloc) for my Evinrude has at least 7 warnings saying not to. They warn that automotive type gear lube does not have the anti-foaming agents that are in Marine type. They say that there is not enough room in the gearcare to accomodate the foam. They definitely thought it was important enough to print the warning that many times. -Scoop
