I am always finding a light coating of oil in the engine compartment on my Searay. Very slight, but noticeable. Is this normal for a carburated engine, or do I need to look for leaks?

There is no evidence of a drip leak, it seems more like a mist.

Re: Oil in Engine Sump

There should be one or two hoses leaving the top of your valve covers that duct directly into your
carb. backfire flame arrester. My guess is one of these hoses are either off the flame arrester or is rotted venting crankcase gasses into the engine compartment. These hoses act to allow crankcase venting a return back into the combusion chamber instead of venting into the enclosed space of the engine compartment. Also the other old ugly is that you are starting to get excessive ring blowby which is pressurizing the crankcase. If it was me I would replace (both
it it has two ) hoses, Clean the flame arrester,
and keepon getting up.
