Oil In Engine Compartment?

I have a 1994 30HP Evinrude (2 stroke). After a day of running I collect 2 stroke oil in the bottom of the engine compartment!!?? The oil is the same oil I put into the fuel but is really bubbly. Running the engine with the cover off I do not see a fuel leak, but the oil has to be getting into there somehow? It is just enough oil to make a mess when I tilt the engine up and it runs out the front of the cover. Is there a fuel leak that I am not seeing and the fuel is evaporating off the oil?? And why is the oil really really bubbly.

Mine used to do that every once.

Turned out to be a sticky float. Take the air box off and pump the primer bulb until hard. Let it sit a moment and try it again. Any fuel showing up in the throat of the carbs? Fire it up and let it run a bit. Hit the throttle hard a couple of times and see if one of the carbs don't puddle a bit.

Re: Oil In Engine Compartment?

I have put on a new fuel pump and overhauled the carb. At first I thought it was just the fuel running out of the carb when I tilt the engine, but last trip out there was quite a bit of oil all over the place in the bottom cover. I dont smell gasoline when I am running the engine. There is only 1 carb so I will double check the puddling next time I go out. What dont make sense to me is how Bubbly the oil is. It is almost like a foam.

OMS Pump? Is that a mixture pump? If so I add the oil straight to the fuel, there is no automatic mixture.

You could also take a little out in a spoon and lite a match to it to confirm that it burns. If it is oil then gas should be mixed with it. If it doesn't burn, then it is most likely water with unburned oil and insignificant amount of gas in it, coming from your exhaust system around the head.

I've had an exhaust leak before and it created little puddles of a light bluish liquid. Since it didn't ignite, I knew it was an exhaust leak and not a fuel leak. Just another possibility.

I have not tried to light it, but it doesnt smell like fuel. It has the same color as the oil I put in the fuel and feels like it also. If it was coming out of the exhaust wouldnt it be burnt? I have not noticed a exhaust leak, but when I was setting the carb up I did get the engine to "sneeze" a couple times and it looked like smoke coming out from under the engine towards the middle. But when it is running it is fine. there is smoke coming out of the exhaust (a lot when cold) but none in the engine compartment.
