A shop recently recommended that I put oil in my fuel. I have a 2005 Yamaha F200. It was a very diluted ratio and they said its to keep some of the inner workings of the engine lubed. Anyone else do this?

The engine has 255 hours on it.

Putting Water and laundry detergent in the fuel helps too. Keeps the fuel system clean

Adding oil to the fuel is a good way to wipe out you O2 sensor.

If Yamaha wanted you to do that you would find it in the manual or warranty

I think some shops say this as a " wow factor "-----Some folks might be impressed by that recommendation.-----And say wow how come nobody else knows this.

I run my lawn mower and snow blowers on 2-cycle mix, because they don't get run all that often and have long off-season layups. I'm not sure I would run a 4 stroke OB with 2-cylce mix (even a slight mix) unless it was for winterization.

BTW - my Mercruiser (4-stroke MPI) gets a 10% 2-cycle oil mix for winterization (per the manual)

It's amazing how many so called 'experts' think they know better than the team of trained, experienced engineers who put so much time and effort into designing an engine.

Thanks for all the advice guys! Much of a one sided debate, which I like.
