I have a 200 mercury offshore 1993 engine that has started leaking blue oil when stored in the tilt position, so much the carbs are full of oil and will not start, the carbs have to be drained to start.has anyone had this happen or know waht causes it?

Re: oil flow while off

There's a check valve on the lower port side of my '98 150 HP engine that may be bad. My motors smoked like crazy when first started. Turned out, the check valve is supposed to relieve the pressure in-boat oil tank shortly after shutdown. If it doesn't, oil will continue to feed and load up the carbs. Easy to check: run the motor for a few minutes to pressurize the oil system; wait ~ ten minutes; open the oil fill cap to see if there's still pressure.
