Doing an oil change on my 5.7L and was curious on thoughts around a standard vs high performance oil filter. Difference on price is only $10, but does the "high performance" filter do anything besides making my wallet a little lighter?

Both are Quicksilver.

The high performance is just a larger filter roughly twice as long as the standard one . Theoretically more area.

If you really want a better filter, I'm 100% with Scott and Chris, Wix is the way to go. There are a number of youtube videos showing why there are truly better.

You have to wonder about terminology.-------Ever look at a beer can label.------They are all made with the BEST ingredients.----With PUREST water.---With FINEST hops and barley.---------Like wise with other products the term heavy duty and high performance are often used with poetic license.-----Ask your Mercury dealer based on the type of boating you do.-----Lots of hrs between changes ?-----Less than full throttle and frequent changes ?----I agree the high performance filter may just have a larger surface area and larger can.

Most filter manufacturer's publish the filtration size in the specs. The WIX is 21 microns, most others are at 35 microns, some even bigger. Of course the trade off with a smaller particle size capture is a great pressure loss across the filter... But if the pump is in reasonable condition, there's plenty of headroom for that....

The 'high performance' WIX is the 57099XP, is the same size, but uses a different filter media. Synthetic as opposed to cellulose.

Chris......
