Mercruiser 4.3L.

I'd like to replace the oil filter -would an automotive filter be good, or is there a 'marine' oil filter that is different?

Thanks,
-V

Ayuh,... Do you have the Block mounted filter, or a Remote mounted filter,..??

If it's Block mounted,... A #1036 Napa is what you need...

There is no difference between a marine filter and an auto one. Just buy a quality filter and not some wally world cheapie. The Napa filter Bond-o mentioned is one of the best out there.

Even Mercury says that the only difference, is the thickness of the metal outside of their filter. They claim that there is less chance of rusting out....

In my mind, any filter left on the engine long enough to rust through...is probably the least of the 'problems' that that engine probably has!

NAPA (WIX) filters always take the top honors, in filter tests.

OMG How often does Mercury recommend replacing an oil filter, every 4 years  If your oil filter has rusted out... I think you have a few more problems....:D:D:D:

Well, you guys can let me have it, but I had to be towed a few weeks ago because me oil filter rusted through and left me with no oil (well, oil in the bilge:eek:).
I put it on new this past spring when I changed the oil in the 3.0. It was the Pure One Purolator: the yellow one with the textured surface. I believe that that surface was what allowed a little salt to accumulate, and allow moisture to rust through the casing of the filter. Yes, I had cleaned it at one time and sprayed rust preventative on it just like the rest of the engine. Still it left me stranded. Lesson learned.
