When changing oil and working on filter(s) that are hard to reach.

Make sure the old o-ring(s) come off the filter head

With a big block it takes 15 seconds to dump 1 gallon of oil at idle

It takes 4 hours to clean up 1 gallon of oil

Ran out of beer cleaning the mess

End of PSA

Also make sure that if the oil filter is supposed to be dished on the top that it is, otherwise same issue...

I’m not sure what sounds worse.
The clean up or running out of beer.

Years back I took my basically new Silverado with the 6.0 gas motor in for the last free oil change. I noticed an oil spot under the truck when I left work the next day. Figured it was there before. Drove the 20 miles home oil pressure good. Rolled in saw oil in car port where I park. Took a look, oil spurting out of filter 😡 First thought double gasket. Pulled stick, down a couple quarts. Immediately called the dealership and had them come and flatbed the truck to their shop. Turned out it was a bad crimp on the filter. No harm, I hope! 90,000 miles later and no issues.
