Went out today and sprung a leak in my oil cooler. It is a Merc 4.3Litre V6. Question is, do I have to drain the oil, before changing?

4.3 doesnt have a oil cooler, it has a power steering cooler. and no you dont have to drain anything. pull it off and repair it(brazing) or replace it. D

Yes Rod, you are correct it is the power steering oil cooler that is damaged. Is there a way to test it if I braze it other than reinstalling and putting the boat in the water.

Any other thoughts?

I successfully removed my power steering oil cooler this morning. Any one know a good place to purchase a new one.

Note To Self -- Drain cooler when winterizing boat this winter!

wazzu,
Go to ebay,+ search merc... Those coolers are a dime a dozen.... And Quite Cheap, Sometimes....

Last time I had mine out, I tapped a drain plug into the in-coming nipple....
