Re: oil change

Please confer with a qualified outboard wrench, El Aqua, or buy a repair manual.

He will explain why you don't change the oil in the upper part of the engine.

Re: oil change

When you go to gas it up, you're not putting *just* gas in it are you?

Force two cycle outboards require that you mix 50 parts of gas to one part of oil. The 50:1 mixture is needed to oil your engine. There is no filling up the upper unit. The part that you are referring to is for the lower unit, which is a completely different lube.

Anyway, if you're not mixing your gas, you're seriously wearing your motor.

Re: oil change

This is a two stroke motor that requires a premix of oil and gasoline (TCW3 BIA or NMMA Certified Motor oil) at a 50:1 ratio, in lay terms 8 ounces per 6 galons of gasoline. There is no need to change oil in two stroke motors as there is no oil reservoir such as in four stroke motors, except for the lower unit where the gears are.

For the lower unit you will need a specially formulated oil with lead and not sulfur for extreme pressure additive with an SAE 90 weight. You will fill it from the bottom up and not otherwise as air bubles could burst the seal.
