I'm leaving our 2004 Yamaha 90 4 stroke tilted up out of the water while away from the lake. The new (to us) boat will be sitting in the water all season at a rental slip and this was the first time coming back to the boat after it had sat in the water for two weeks, engine up. The previous owner never left the boat in the water even overnight.
After lowering the engine into the water and priming it with the bulb it started easily and quickly. However, the oil buzzer and indicator came on immediately after the engine caught and stayed on until I shut down some 15 seconds later.
I checked the oil and found it to be right up and oil filter was dry and firmly screwed on. I'm assuming some sensor registered dry so long in the tilt position that the engine assumed there was no oil.
By the time I replaced the cowl and started it again, the buzzer stayed off.
Has anyone else experienced this and what can I do to combat it short of leaving my engine down. The slip is in a shallow bay and I don't want it to end up mucked up like the other boats I see moored full-time. The engine has 24 hours on it.
