In my wife's trunk, an oil bottle leaked from a loose cap and I have about three good sized spots where the oil is. I tried scrubbing them with dish detergent, then all-purpose cleaner (generic Mr. Clean), then vacuuming with a shop vac.

After lots of scrubbing & sucking, the oil's still there. I'm thinking of more scrubbing with dish detergent and more vacuuming.

Anyone know of any miracle oil removers or have any alternative ideas? I don't really want to resort to putting a new piece of carpet over the original one, but might have to go that route.

Thanks.

whenever I have oil on anything, brake clean works grat, but not sure what it will do to your carpet. i've only used it on solid surfaces.

Castrol SuperClean. Try it on a out of the way spot first to see if it discolors the carpet.

spots

Whenever there are oil drips on the driveway, I cover them up with Kitty Litter for a week or two. That usually gets the stain out... Maybe you can take the carpet out of the trunk for a while to try?

The best thing is to call around to all the wrecking yards in the area and see if you can find another one. Not likly you are going to get it out completely.

Lakelover,as stated before by Noel, brake cleaner will do it for you.Buy a can for $2 and spray it directly on to the spots from a close distance.Blast it !!! Brake cleaner IS just like dry cleaning.I have used it on a silk tie before so I kniw it works.Charlie
