Hello again my friends, I have just recently purchased a 1971 14 ft. Arrowglass Cougar with a 1972 65 hp Johnson 2 stroke outboard motor and I was wondering if anyone out there knows the exact mixture that the oil & gas are supposed be.
Thanks fellow boaters. daddue11

50 to 1 and a little more oil is better than not enough as it will run cooler but smoke a little bit more so 50 lts of fuel add 1 ltr of oil I don't know what that is in gallons that is 16 onces to 6 gallons i found out

hi daddue11. Welcome to iboats. I believe you want to run 50:1 mix, which is 1 pint of TCW-3 oil per 6 gallons of 87 octane gas. If it's been sitting a while I'd get rid of all the old fuel and start fresh. You may even want to add a little extra oil too for the first tank or so. It won't hurt anything and should help relube the innards a bit. Fuel treatments like, Sea Foam, are good too. They help clean out old deposits and relube innards at the same time.

50:1 is correct. If you have powerhead trouble, don't blame it on the oil. Those motors are bad about blowing water into the center and lower cylinder from warped exhaust cover plates.

Hey,thanks alot my friends,I've had the boat for about two weeks now and I haven't touched the motor yet.
I've been replacing rollers and boards on the trailer and puting saftey chains on the tounge. The floors and transom are really solid and all of the seats are brand new. The old motor controls are still installed on the boat from an evinrude motor and the Jonson 65 has the controls hooked up to the motor but not the boat,I'm going to take it to a boat shop next week and have it checked over and tuned and controls installed. If anything is drastically wrong with the 65 then I'll end up using a 20 hp eninrude tiller steer for awhile,I know it'll look funny and be under powered for awhile but I'm sure the fish won't mind.
Once again thank you my friends for the prompt replies. daddue11:):)

I own two of them. 50:1 is the correct mix and I recommend a semi-synthetic oil. Depending on how much you use it, a decarb with BRP Engine Tuner about once to twice a year, will keep the internals nice.

Don't forget that you need to run Type C lube in the gearbox. You can buy it here at iboats. Pennzoil Multi Vehicle ATF works just fine, as well (I run it in mine).
