is there an additive that actually rejuvinates the seals? has anyone used something good that doesnt clog the pump or journals?

new used motor has been sitting a few years and the rear main seal is dripping oil after just being fired up today.... im assuming the seal may have hardened or shrunk a little bit? maybe? normally i only see rear seal leaks on vehicles that the bearings are bad, but this motor has no noise or rattles at all. other than the new water shudder. i was very suprised to see the seal leak!

Re: oil additives?

Howdy,

No. You need to replace the seal if it's leaking.

Just about ALL engine manufacturers recommend NOT using additives. Some will void new engine warranties if they discover that they've been used and and an oil related failure has occurred.

Cheers,

Rick
