Put in there last week. It was disappointing to say the least. Can someone tell me where to put in on the Ohio that has some charm and character? Looking at industrial plants is not my idea of scenic river cruising.

I have the same question so even though this post is a year old might as well bump it! We are in the area from east canton / minerva alot (family) so if we ever decided to go to the ohio the E Liverpool area would be the closest probably.

I just spend a great weekend on the Ohio around Madisen, IN. About 60 miles downriver from Cincy. I had run the Ohio from Wheeling to Pittsburgh in early June and then boated from Cincy to Louoisville last weekend.....couldn't believe it was the same river!

You need to go from E. Liverpool to Pittsburgh to get any kind of "scenery". Actually the entire Ohio River is not especially scenic. It's a very deep river valley, so you don't see out of it. It's also one of the busiest commercially navigable rivers in the world.
I guess it's less ugly between Cincy and Louisville, KY, but it's not particularly beautiful, in my opinion. It's pretty desolate between Cincy and Hunington and Parkersburg. At least that's the way I remember it, from the time I was on it it 1999.
The area around Parkersburg, West Virginia isn't too bad. Seeing Aaron Burr's mansion on Blennerhesset Island is cool. Also a trip up the Muskingham River is supposed to be special.

I grew up just north of East Liverpool in the 1970s and 80s. We moved to a private lake to go boating so we didn't have to boat on that section of the Ohio. The area from ELO to the New Cumberland dam is especially not nice. Nothing to do, nothing to see. Unless you stop in Chester, WV and hitch a car ride to Homer Laughlin China Company in Newell to go shopping for the best pottery in the world!

From Evansville to Golconda is very nice and scenic. We'll be doing a run to shrimp festival in Golconda next weekend if anybody is interested. We'll be launching in Mt Vernon, IN Saturday a.m. and staying the night in Golconda, IL... coming home Sunday morning.
