Well I bought my house about a year and 8 monthes ago as a little starter house. Well we finally got sick of the god auful smell that was coming from the basement. We found out that nothing will take dog Urine out of the drywall or carpet. So it had to all come out. Here are some picture of the demo. We also found out that studs will go rotten after soked in dog urine. All in all we took 3700 lbs to the dump. Now next weekend we will be framing up 3 rooms in the basement Approxmently 600 sq feet. I Will be Updating With pictures and stories Untill Finished....

It is always kind of overwhelming and confusing getting into those projects.

Good luck and have fun with it.

DId the dog pee on the soffets and the ceiling as well? How come you didn't just remove the bottom four feet of drywall?

Re: Oh The Mess That I Made

I feel your pain. I wanted to wall paper one corner of a room, build a toy cabinet, then do the rest of the room later. I pulled the old paper and found paneling. I pulled the paneling and found more wall paper. I pulled the wall paper down to the first layer. I found a fireplace and flue hole. 2 weeks later I have new drywall up and taped and mudded in the one corner. Now the wife wants the whole room and floor done. Still don't have the toy box started.

Ayuh,.........

Last Month,...I bought a little rental house at the river nextdoor to the place I bought last summer.........

It was previously owned by a Little Old Lady,.....
I only saw her once in the 5 months she lived Nextdoor........
That was when they took her out on a gurney,... She's now in a Nursing Home......

Seems she just Couldn't take care of herself anymore,..................
I don't think she's been able to Take Care of her 8 Cats for Considerably Longer............... :(

I've got 3 weeks,... Everyday,.. into it Now,+ the End is Nowhere in Sight..............

Good luck on the remodel. It looks like 'fun'. :)

Be sure to seal the cement on the floor. The people that owned my moms house bred collies in the garage. They peed all over the place. 33 years later, you can still smell the urine when the floor gets damp.

Skiuseme,

I just finished a basement project. If you don't want to put drywall on the ceiling again, check out the ceiling system I used on my project, it uses only 1 5/8" of headroom amd you still have removable tiles for easy access to wire, plumbing, etc.

Basement Project

Go for it! My living room was like that too... Pandora's box that is. I wished I took pictures... oh well. What a feeling of accomplishment when it's finally finished.

Twidget has some good advice there.
