is it possible to get water in the oil through a bad exhaust manifold or is this stricktly a head gasket issue.engine is a 2.3 omc,raw water cooling system.i got this boat from a friend that put the boat up for the winter without draining the water,(cracked the block) i bought a used short block, had origanal head checked for cracks and decked(came back with clean bill of health)when i got her up and runnig,i did find a small exterior water leak on the original exhaust manifold.i was hoping for a manifild problem vs. head gasket. any thoughts would be appriciated thanks

If the block cracked, the manifold could have easily cracked as well.

A bad or cracked manifold could easily cause water in the oil.

Warning...they are VERY expensive and hard, if not impossible, to find new.

If there is any chance that water still resides anywhere in the engine, the weekend maybe to late. If there is water laying in the cylinders, it needs to be removed before it rusts.

Change oil - do compression test. Check for water in oil. If compression test checks out - cooling system pressure test to find where leak is. A cracked exhaust wouldn't normally put much water in your oil. You'd be experiencing lean condition and mis-fire, water on the plugs etc.

There's always a couple of those OMC/Ford 2.3 exhaust manifolds on ebay in good used condition for about $300.

You want a hard to find exhaust manifold, try a volvo aq171c, those are almost non-existent!

Easy way to know if the manifold is good or not is to pull manifold and look inside. If it is all black from exhaust fumes it is good if it is all clean it means it was cleaned by water / steam getting through the crack...
