off to the elect. rebuilder???

went to use the 1982 90 hp rude yesterday and would not start. took the hood off and watched,heres whats happening. the the gear on the starter will spin madly but will not rise and engage.you can manually put it up to the fly wheel but then it does not have the jam to turn it over. is the bendix spring pooched or ???

Usually caused by low voltage, crummy terminations, etc. I would spray some WD40 on the shaft and try it again. If thatt doesn't work check all + and - terminations for clean and tight.

took it apart. just the drive that is. it was dirty and the top nut was not properly adjusted to let the drive engage proprely.cleaned up and adjusted and it works great now. thanks for the response.
