Has any one ever heard of. Droping a block or anchor with an eye bolt 10 or 15 ' off shore. Then rigging ropes or cable so you can (from shore) pull your boat to shore for loading or unloading the pull it out again so it won't rub the beach or get tossed by wakes?? If so can you share the logistics? Thanks. Rex

Beins Texasmark is obviously a Texas boy, I'm not all that up on things in New England, but I have seen a lot of pictures of boats moored in the harbors in that place and one would think that you didn't have to have a launch to take you to your 13' Whaler moored out "theah" in the "haba".

Might ask a New Englander.

Ayuh,......

Actually those Maineiacs hop into their Wicked Small Dingy,+ row out theah to the boat.......

If so can you share the logistics?

With a full circle of line the boat can be hauled from shore to anchor,+ back.......

Sorry, I just had to have a little fun with this. I guess the dingy lies inverted on the piah with the paddle beneath for the journey out theah.

Geez this is fun. Hope no one is offended.....we Texans have our way of sayin and fixin things too, so don't get too hung up over this.

Seriously. There are two problems:

1. It presents a navigation hazard for anyone operating in the area.

2. To be able to "fetch" the boat, the line would have to be secured at the dock in such a manner that the boat would be dependent upon the anchoring device. Shifting of the boat as a result of wind and wave directional changes could make this next to impossible.

During summer vacation we used to do a similar thing. The lake was 5 miles across and the wind/waves could really get bad. You didn't want to dock or shore the boat as the waves would pound it to pieces.

The only alternative was as you are discussing; a remote mooring from a submerged anchor totally independent of anything else. Just meant you had to take a swim every morning to fetch the boat.

Got thinking about this and had a question. Apparently I don't really understand your situation, but that's often the case for me.

Is a shore station a possibility for you? Do you own the land on the shore? Does the lake/river bed drop off so rapidly that a shore station would not be feasible? Are there regulatory issues that might prohibit a shore station?

You mentioned anchoring only 10' - 15' off shore. If you're that close, how big is your boat? And how long is your dock?
