To replace the stringers on a glastron fiberglass 19ft boat, does it have to come off the trailer? Or can the stringers be replaced with the boat still on the trailer? The stringers are rotted. This will be a full refurbishment of the wood on the boat. This includes replacing the transom.

You can leave it on the trailer and support the hull with straps or wood. Look and search the forums in the resto section. Lots of great info.

Allow me to introduce you to iboats Royalty, friscoboater is what we like to call a one man boat remanufacturer, Trainer and General Masochist, but I can assure you, better workmanship and care you will not find

Start your own thread in the restoration section, I'm sure friscoboater will be more then happy to talk to you about your restoration.

Thank you for your advice. I can relate to what friscoboater encountered. I bought this boat being told by PO that only the deck needed repair. It was not so. The deck, stringers, and transom all need to be replaced. I needed a project to work on so I guess I got my wish... I will replace all the wood and rebuild the cuddy as well. Like friscoboater, I will not reinstall carpet.

One thing to be aware of (well, two actually)... On most boats the deck provides a lot of structural stiffness, so with the deck removed to replace stringers the hull will tend to flex as you're inside working on it. It's worth the effort to put a little thought into keeping the hull stable as you're repairing it.

Thanks and that's why I suggested putting straps or a wood brace from the top of the hull from side to side to hold it in place. Maybe I'm not being clear enough with my words on what I meant.
I apologize fo any confusion.
