I ordered an oem u joint retainer ring but it won’t fit. It is roughly 1/16” too large of an od. This is making me wonder if my outdrive is an aftermarket unit rather than a merc. There are no badges or labels inside or out.
The old retainer was smooth cast aluminum and painted black, it had a shoulder that went in before the threads started. The second pic shows the pieces with the insides aligned, the difference is diameter can be seen there.
The oem part is also cast aluminum but unpainted. It does not have the shoulder. In the attached picture the broken piece is the one that came on the drive.
It is an alpha one gen one. The oem part came from a merc dealer but was not bagged (could be that it was not oem but these guys are pretty correct when it comes to selling parts I think).
is it possible my drive is actually a Sierra or something? Are there any particular pics of the drive I could share which would help identifying them?
