OEM vs Aftermarket Switchbox

I need to replace the switchbox (332-4911A2) on my 70's Merc 20hp (serial #7054275). Both local Merc dealers want $270 CDN for a new switch box. One dealer says he "may" have an old one, and if he does it be $100 CDN for it.

I found that Seiler Marine in Florida will sell me an aftermarket switch box for $135 US or about $180 CDN. So even after shipping and duty, it'd probably still be a bit cheaper to go through these guys.

So what is my best bet? Are the aftermarket boxes cheaper because they are not the same quality as the OEM parts? Is it worth the risk to go for a used switchbox?

Any advice appreciated.

Olde Merc,

I am a big proponent of OEM parts.

However, your engine is 30 years old. How much $$$ do you want to put in it? The aftermarket part won't hurt anything.

Go with the aftermarket. Iv never had a problem with them.
