Myself and 2 other coworkers are looking to open our own shop. But need to get our hands on OEM shop manuals. All 3 of us are certified aviation techs and ASE certified auto mechanics. With the aviation industry in this big slump, we figure now is a good time to get out. Also how do we go about getting into some of the manufactures cert classes? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: OEM Manuals

there was a pot on this site within the past week or two where a couple of guys were discussing outboard training courses. maybe they will see this and offer their thoughts. you might be able to find the thread using the search routine and trying a a few select key words. maybe "training", "school" etc.

As per the manuals:
http://www.kencook.com/
is the only source i know of for "new" old omc manuals.

Good Luck with the new career. i've got a couple of buddies who just got their "walking-papers" from United. They'er changing careers too. Heck, my job is closing down at the end of June. I may just see you at one of those trainig courses

Re: OEM Manuals

Thanks for the info. I will search for it. Were on a goverment contract right now, but even that is shakey at this point. What few boat shops are down here (3 total) are so over loaded (2-3 week lead time) there seems to be room for one more. I understand that not having merc, or yamaha ect. factory training might turn some folks away. But if your shop rate is fair and you stand behind your work, I beleive your client structure will grow fast. All of us being mechanically inclined and all the good aircraft tooling and having access to a machine shop to build additional tooling. Well, we might stand a chance.
The only obstacle I see is getting hands on good quality maintenance manuals.
Thanks again!

Re: OEM Manuals

Mdegood-the only way that I know to get into factory authorized courses is to be a dealer.you can be different levels of dealers ie: service only...service and parts....service/parts/sales...as for manuals, try the parts department link at ALL outboard brands
