1975 E/rude 6 HP ....going to put a kit in the carb.
Have cleaned the carb a couple of times without the aid of a manual, but had to reseal the gearcase and R/R impeller, so found an OEM manual on E-Bay....did not want to tackle that free-hand... ;)

Since I have manual I actually read the section on carb removal just to see if i was missing anything (not really expecting any surprise since i had done it a few times before with no problem).

Woah! "Not so fast Buck Rogers" .

The last step in the procedure (after you would have the carb in your hand) says " Remove 7 screws attaching intake manifold to crankcase..Remove intake manifold, leaf plate assembly and gasket from crankcase..."

My question is : why would I need to do that? Is there a maintenance item to do there?

You do not need to take off the intake manifold to service the carb. You really don't even need to take the starter completely off if you're careful.

The writers of the manual are just assuming you intend to go into the reeds for some reason. If you have no reason, don't go.

Thanks...it's what I figured, but thought I'd ask to make sure.
